2019: Acquisition of VMware NSX
On October 16, 2019 it became known that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) invested means in acquisition of solutions of VMware. Among them — software for virtualization and security of VMware NSX Data Center network. The platform allows ICRC to protect large volumes of data which the organization collects in regions of crisis situations. Also it provides communication on the protected network between the headquarters in Switzerland and the employees on places.
Millions of people become the victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters worldwide. The ICRC plays a key role in providing the help to people at the moments of the emergency need. The organization tries to collect as much as possible information on injured in areas of crisis situations to understand the developed situation, to estimate the need for the help and to effectively carry out the task which has especially humanitarian character. In process of distribution of digital technologies among persons in need the volume of the data collected by ICRC grows in the help (social networks, smartphones, etc.). Thanking the NSX organization can constantly ensure safety of information at its use for the purpose of improvement of the humanitarian activity.
The ICRC increases performance of the systems to use algorithms for data analysis and identification of logic, communications and trends. Afterwards the organization will be able to be guided by them at accomplishment of the humanitarian tasks. The ICRC aims to understand better, where exactly people need the urgent help, to provide them information on candidate solutions of problems in quickly changing situation more effectively and quicker to find missing relatives.
The ICRC processes large volumes of personal data of the people who are in very unsafe environment. Inadequate treatment of data can create risk for those people to whom we try to help, having endangered them from participants of armed conflict and other persons. Therefore we need to invest in the technologies providing confidentiality, enciphering and anonymity of data. We work with VMware more than ten years. Aiming to provide protection of our data, we through joint efforts constructed reliable IT infrastructure which forms a basis to our activity around the world, notes Charlotte Lindsey-Kyurte, the director of Management of transition to digital technologies and work with data of ICRC

At the expense of it employees always have an opportunity to keep in contact with each other and with the ICRC headquarters in Switzerland. Thanks to productive and reliable IT infrastructure employees can carry out difficult and responsible routine tasks in regions of crisis situations.
