The SharedStreets platform financed by Bloomberg's Fund and developed by NACTO and partnership of Open Transport Partnership is the neutral, anonymous center of data exchange, accurate suppliers of transport services, private companies and public institutions and also the center for data analysis in the field of traffic management, city planning and development of new technologies. This platform breaks legal, normative and technology barriers between the state and private sectors, transforming modern incompatible formats of data on the transport system from different sources to the public global standard. SharedStreets provides a universal language for the digital description of each aspect of city streets, opening the markets for the innovation enterprises of the private sector, and eliminates need manually "translate", compare and transfer data, providing thereby economy of public funds. The platform is started at the beginning of 2018.

2018: Cooperation of Ford, Uber and Lyft within the SharedStreets project

On October 1, 2018 the companies Ford, Uber also Lyft announced cooperation within the SharedStreets project ("the General Roads") – platforms for the processing and data analysis intended for sharing of information on city spaces and transport flows for the purpose of improvement of mobility in the cities. These data will provide to the city authorities and private enterprises tools for management of parking spaces, reduction of jams and harmful emissions from motor transport, will help to increase efficiency of city streets that inhabitants could reach a destination point quicker. More effective management of city transport will also allow to reduce risk of road accident that, eventually, will promote reduction of death rate on roads.

SharedStreets platform

According to Ford company, partnership will give to the city authorities unprecedented data access about traffic. It will facilitate decision making in questions of planning and investments as in the cities car-sharing and autonomous transport develops. Thanks to the agreement, the companies cooperating in the field of mobility will also receive the general standard for data exchange between the cities where local requirements to a format very much differ.

As noted in Ford, use the SharedStreets platform for September, 2018 already in 30 cities of the world, and this partnership will provide to the city authorities perspective tools for management of transport networks. The agreement includes:

  • In partnership with Ford – development of the universal standard of data for real-time analysis of demand for parking space and its availability. Using this tool of the city will be able responsibly to set the prices of the parking and to manage parking space in real time. It will become the first step on the way to creation of the global mechanism of pricing on roads which the cities and the companies will be able to use for encouragement of the choice of more eco-friendly transport, reasonable distribution of city space and reduction of emissions of harmful substances.
  • In partnership with Uber – providing on a free basis of global data on the motion speed of traffic flows. Thanks to this information the city authorities will be able to define, where exactly on their streets drivers accelerate or make dangerous maneuvers to make re-planning of streets and to make them safer. Uber will include data on the speed of flows in updating of the Kepler.gl tool open source. It will provide to the cities the innovation tools for data visualization and information exchange worldwide. Later own data on the speed of traffic flows in the cities will be provided by Lyft.
  • Lyft will combine efforts with SharedStreets and Uber in creation of universal infrastructure for data exchange about the number of landings/disembarkation of passengers on streets. Lyft will also provide anonymous aggregated data about trips to the taxi in the leading cities of the world. It will help the city authorities to understand where trips on the cars called through applications are most demanded and to reduce jams, to make roads more effective and also to improve conditions for all participants of traffic irrespective of, they move driving the car, by bicycle or on foot.
