2018: Paris opened shop without cashiers from 6 thousand products
On October 9, 2018 the French network of food products Casino opened in Paris the first shop without cashiers under the name Le Casino 4 near the Champs Elysée.
The chairman and the chief executive officer of Casino Group Jean-Charles Naouri notes that retail business became focused by the innovation, and it is necessary for the company keep up to date – not only to adapt to the digital future, but also to expect it. The new concept as Nauri notes, realizes absolutely new type of thinking focused on satisfaction of clients and based on close trusted relationships with buyers.
The new shop has three floors and offers 6,000 products. It is open 24 hours, seven days a week and can brag of a wide choice of environmentally friendly products, the wine vault and samples of the ready dishes prepared by the chef. In outlet there is also a showroom for products of the French online store Cdiscount and besplantny space for a co-working. On a show-window the digital display of augmented reality is exposed. Clients can not only make purchases on site, but also order products on the house. The program of image understanding allows buyers to make independently purchases, using the Casino application on the smartphone.
Opening of similar outlet in Paris is connected with approach of Amazon corporation which provided Amazon Go - the shops without cashier using sensors, artificial intelligence and smartphones for optimization of purchases. In some reports it is specified that Amazon can open up to 3,000 Amazon Go shops by 2021. Though there are no Amazon Go points in France yet, Monoprix, the competitor of retail chain stores of Casino, signed the sales agreement of groceries through the loyalty program of Amazon Prime in Paris.[1]
