2018: The VPN service providing a part of a dedicated server
On October 1, 2018 the Estonian company IncogniTeam provided VPNext VPN service.
As a rule, VPN services get in many countries under different restrictions – from partial traffic filtering to a total ban of use. VPNext assumes lease of a part of a dedicated server (VPS) at which completely configured VPN software already works. Only one user who, actually, becomes the owner and only "client" of own, personal VPN service has access to it.
Such approach allows to display use the VPN level which is not falling under normal schemes of interaction of VPN providers, clients and legislators. In particular, the standard method of blocking on IP will be very complicated by the whole subnets as blocks of the IP addresses belong to different European data centers and the companies.
Software of the VPN server is completely configured and ready to work. It is only necessary to set server admin password and also the login and the password for connection of end devices. Also there is an opportunity to configure traffic filtering according to the local legislation that in this case completely is in an area of responsibility of the end user.
Setup of VPN connection on end devices is performed by standard means OS, without installation of additional SOFTWARE. Operating systems Windows Linux Mac OS iOS, Android without restriction on the number of attached devices are supported. The VPN protocol L2TP/ is used IPsec. And if to set the free SoftEther VPN Client Manager utility, then connection will be performed under the protocol "SSL-VPN" which is indistinguishable from normal HTTPS- traffic.
Important feature of VPNext is the lack of log files on server side that can be checked (to configure) independently. For this purpose "advanced" users can use the free utility of control of the SoftEther VPN Server Manager VPN server. It will allow to perform additional settings – for example, to change the VPN protocol for OpenVPN, MS-SSTP or L2TPv3. The same utility allows to configure traffic filtering.
