2018: Announcement

On October 16, 2018 the Smith & Nephew company released the new disposable system of treatment of wounds with a negative pressure of Pico 7Y equipped with corporate technology of distribution of pressure Airlock. The new tool is intended for postoperative aftercare of patients with surgical intervention on a mammary gland. It is the first system for therapy of wounds the negative pressure which includes the Y-shaped connection allowing to use at the same time two pads from one pump that in practice allows to use the tool at the same time on two sections of a wound surface and to potentially reduce service cost.

Pico 7Y consists of the pump and two pads which repeat irregular anatomic shape of a mammary gland and also the indicator of completion of work which helps to avoid unnecessary bandagings. Besides, a new system is supplied with the indicator of penetration of air into area of low pressure. Pico 7Y makes 23% less noise, than the previous model disturbs patients less.

System of treatment at once two wounds with a negative pressure of Pico 7Y

Pico 7Y is the last addition to family of the Pico tools which made a revolution in use of therapy of negative pressure, having made this method which was earlier applied only in stationary conditions, available to more wide range of ambulatory patients.

It is proved that Pico 7Y considerably reduces the probability of accession of an infection to a postoperative wound in comparison with standard bandages. In a research of patients with a breast cancer which carried out surgical intervention Pico 7Y reduced the frequency of postoperative wound complications by 75% in comparison with standard leaving thanks to what adjuvant therapy was appointed in time, and it, in turn, affected survival of patients, the press release says.

The therapeutic Pico 7Y system conforms to all regulatory requirements of the European Union and already went on sale.[1]
