2018: Beginning of sales

On October 18, 2018 Olympus began sales of a robotic system for laparoscopic surgeries 3D/FlexDex. It is constructed on own technologies of the company and also developments of FlexDex company.

The company integrated the system of laparoscopic visualization Endoeye Flex 3D with the robotic FlexDex needle holder imitating a wrist that allowed to improve technique of miniinvasive laparoscopic procedures and to accelerate their carrying out. The 3D/FlexDex device can be used at many transactions, including all-surgical and gynecologic interventions.

Olympus began sales of a robotic system for laparoscopy

The combination of two Olympus technologies simplifies suture in hard-to-reach spots. The FlexDex needle holder precisely reproduces movements of brushes and the surgeon's hands in an operational field, and the Endoeye Flex laparoscope with a double lens allows the doctor to perceive a picture in a natural three-dimensional type, imitating human sight at open transaction, the press release says.

3D/FlexDex includes the three-axis cardan hinge which fastens to a wrist of the surgeon and transfers the movements of his hand to the needle holder. When using a system the surgeon can estimate a condition of all abdominal cavity, supporting optimal visualization of an operational field thanks to exact orientation of the laparoscope rotating in all directions and using image sensors with a high density of light sensors.

Olympus states that the new technology will provide rather cheap and easy way of application of the robotic systems for miniinvasive transactions that is extremely important in the conditions of lean production. It not only will improve results of therapy and satisfaction of patients, representatives of Olympus consider, but also will facilitate complex work of surgeons, having allowed them to perform the bigger number of operations with smaller energy costs.[1]
