2018: Announcement

On October 21, 2018 the Varian Medical Systems company released the system of remote introduction of the radioactive medicines Bravos for high-dose radiation therapy which should optimize workflow of clinic.

High-dose radiation therapy is carried out by temporary placement of a tiny source of radioactive radiation directly to a tumor or other target area. Using the system of remote introduction of radioactive medicines, clinical physicians can locate a radiation source in a needle, a catheter or the special applicator and to enter it on the necessary depth which, according to calculations, will provide the approved impact on a tumor. When treatment is complete, the system of remote introduction will take a source, without subjecting the doctor and the patient of excess danger.

To simplify treatment process, the Bravos system is equipped with a touch control and LEDs of intuitive control. The touch screen provides access to all necessary information concerning a status of the patient or his treatment, and LED signals indicate correctness of remote placement of radioactive medicine. Green indicators signal about the correct accomplishment of the procedure, and yellow and red warn the clinical physician about the stages requiring correction. For increase in efficiency of process Bravos includes sheets of preliminary preparation and check of the correct accomplishment of manipulations. They allow the clinical physician to prepare step by step for holding a procedure and also provide a timeout for safety of patients.

The Bravos system was investigated in clinical conditions within five years and already began to be used in hospital of the University of Norfolk and Norwich. Bravos is integrated with other products Varian – such as BrachyVision system for planning of treatment and the information platform for oncologists of Varian ARIA.[1]
