2018: Creation and system implementation
In October, 2018 IBM announced the artificial intelligence intended for creation of new aromas. A system under the name Philyra is developed together with the large producer of Symrise fragrances using technologies of division IBM Research.
Now our perfumers can work side by side with the AI pupil capable to analyze thousands of formulas and historical data for determination of samples and forecasting of new combinations, helping to make them more productive and to accelerate development process and directing them to formulas unprecedented earlier — the president of division of Symrise Scent & Care said Akhim of Daub (Achim Daub). |
In the press release it is noted that in comparison with computer models which in IBM Research created for other areas the perfumery industry requires extremely high accuracy of work. Even in case of the minimum deviation of a system from certain values the new aroma is created or lost. Philyra addresses the huge database which formulas of smells, information on group of aromas (fruit, east, flower, etc.) and also the data saved for the last periods of researches and practical work enter.
Philyra helps to pick up replacement to any ingredient, calculates optimal proportions and compares to the available samples. A system tries to discover "white spots" in transitions between different shades of aromas, registering new transitions of shades and options of their creation.
Thanks to an algorithm it is possible to create the aromas focused on specific audience depending on age, the countries, trends in a fashion and other factors.
The technology entered the commercial market. The first it will be tested by the Brazil's second in value cosmetic company O Boticário. It will provide the spirits created using this artificial intelligence in 2019.[1]
