2018: Shutdown of network because of the hidden production of bitcoin

The cyber attack to the Saint Francis Csaverija's university located in the city of Antigonish (Canada) which began on November 1, 2018 led to the fact that an institution had to close almost for a week access to the network. In computer systems detected the malicious software for the hidden production of cryptocurrency.

According to the Globalnews.ca portal, "the suspicious activity" in network of the university became the reason to start investigation. Right after cracking attempt detection the university switched-off 150 servers and closed access to online courses, the cloud storage, mail services, Wi-Fi. Organizations snared viruses which it is reserved got bitcoins by means of university servers and computers.

In the statement published by Saint Francis Csaverija's University on November 4, 2018 it was reported that the attack did not affect personal data of users. On November 5, work of the most part of services was recovered. The management of educational institution said that it will increase sensitivity of a security system and will turn off outdated services, and passwords of accounts asked to change users.

Already at least 30% of the British companies announced the attacks of miners in July, 2018. The situation worsens in a type of the fact that to implement the malware in corporate systems, such as network of the university of Saint Francis Csaverija, becomes simpler and cheaper, experts note.
