2023: Microsoft will pay Aeroflot 21.8 million rubles for refusing technical support for software

On May 18, 2023, it became known that Aeroflot won a trial against the Russian structure Microsoft. The Redmond Corporation, according to the decision, is obliged to pay the largest Russian airline approximately 21.8 million rubles.

According to CNews, the case is related to the provision of technical support services by Microsoft. In the current geopolitical situation, the American corporation curtailed its activities in the Russian market, as a result of which the provision of services to Russian customers was terminated. At the same time, Microsoft has not fully fulfilled its obligations under many of the previously concluded contracts.

Aeroflot sued 21.8 million rubles from Microsoft for a broken software support contract

Aeroflot has issued a service agreement with the Russian division of Microsoft - Microsoft Rus - on June 30, 2021. The cost of the ordered services amounted to 64.6 million rubles, and technical support was to be provided until June 28, 2022. However, in fact, Microsoft stopped serving the airline on February 28, 2022. Thus, the cost of the services provided amounted to 43.6 million rubles.

The lawsuit against Microsoft was sent to court by PJSC Aeroflot-Russian Airlines on February 6, 2023. Before that, according to CNews, the air carrier turned to Microsoft with a demand to pay the main debt in the amount of about 21 million rubles, as well as interest - 838.4 thousand rubles. However, the software supplier did not respond to the claim in any way, and the Russian airline was forced to file a statement of claim against Microsoft. Having studied the documents provided, the court sided with Aeroflot, obliging the defendants to pay almost 22 million rubles in compensation for the prematurely broken service contract. The American corporation does not comment on the decision.[1]

2017: Microsoft Premier Support Services Agreement

In March 2017, Aeroflot entered into an agreement with Microsoft Rus for the services of the premier support of Microsoft products during the year.[2]
