2018: Attraction of $15.5 million investments
On November 15, 2018 representatives of Apex.AI reported that they attracted $15.5 million in the form of a venture capital from Canaan Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
The company is going to spend the means received from investors for creation of safer and reliable version of the open operating system Robot Operating System (ROS) which appeared in research laboratories a little more than ten years ago. It is used in the development area of unmanned vehicles and robotics the companies Intel, Microsoft and Amazon.
Apex.AI is going to release software in 2019. Developers claim that their software can be used in all autonomous systems — from autonomous cars to unmanned aerial vehicles.
ROS was never intended for commercial operation. It is the tremendous tool for researches, but if to speak about security and reliability, it is not intended for this purpose — the founder of Apex.AI Jan Becker reported. |
According to Becker, in some operating systems at simultaneous background work of several applications there can be delays in several milliseconds. It can be neglected if software works on the smartphone or the notebook, but in the unmanned vehicle the difference when braking can be noticeable.
We pass through each code line and we guarantee that enough time is selected for accomplishment of processes, crucial for security — Becker told. |
The business model of the company is in selling the changed version of software and to provide paid support. The direction of development Apex.AI will define technical committee where enter representatives of Intel, Microsoft, Bosch and Toyota Research Institute.[1][2]
