Volvo signed the contract with the Norwegian company Brönnöy Kalk AS which will use self-driving trucks of the Swedish producer for limestone transportation. At the first stage transportation will be performed along the five-kilometer route lying from the mine to the nearest port.

Brönnöy Kalk AS will use six self-driving Volvo trucks. The person ready to secure to the technician in case of emergency, but by the end of 2019 as authors of the project calculate will drive at first, these vehicles will be able to go completely independently.
The signed contract is for Volvo continuation of the recent successful projects on automation concerning mineral extraction, cleaning of a sugar cane and collecting of garbage. However in a case with Brönnöy Kalk AS the Swedish company for the first time began to provide pilotless cars for commercial use. The financial component of this agreement does not reveal.
According to forecasts of analysts of IDTechEx, the size of the market of autonomous vehicles for mineral extraction will reach $ 5 billion by 2028.[1]
