On November 21, 2018 the French federation of tobacco shops Fédération des Buralistes announced sales of bitcoins in tobacco booths.
Within the agreement with the French provider of cryptocurrency wallets KeplerK about 4000 small shops will sell bitcoin vouchers which buyers can exchange for cryptocurrency on the website KeplerK during creation of a purse. Vouchers of 50, 100 and 250 euros are created.
Commenting on the choice of tobacco shops as the intermediary for sale of bitcoins, Adil Zakhar, the director of strategy and development of KeplerK company, said: "Owners of tobacco shops - the best choice because they are trusted by clients, and they already sell cards, for example, for account replenishment of mobile phones".
Representatives of KeplerK reported that they financing of the project will be performed at the expense of 7% of the commission from each transaction. The company is going to get all necessary permissions and to sign agreements for the term of more than one and a half years.
According to the French radio network "Europe 1", permission was issued by the French management on supervision and the dispute resolution (ACPR) - independent body which works under the direction of the central bank of France. However the Bank of France itself made the statement that does not support this solution.
Despite the fact that it was stated this morning [...], without preliminary check, such agreement on sale of bitcoins in tobacco booths was not signed, said in the statement of bank. — Besides, such transaction is not considered or is not discussed. |
The central bank of France emphasized that ACPR issued permission within the powers, and it is not necessary to understand it so that management controls the KeplerK project. The situation reflects only that fact that regulators in the country reckon with the growing influence of bitcoin.[1][2]
