Hector Ruiz is the executive chairman and the chairman of the board of directors of the American company AMD, the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.
Biography
Was born on December 25, 1945 in Pyedras Negras, Mexico.
Studied at high school in the Eagle Pess in Texas. Every time when it went to school, to it was necessary to cross border of Mexico and the USA.
Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where received at first degree of the bachelor (1968), and then (1970) – the master in the field of electrical equipment. Later, in 1973, received a doctor's degree in Rice University.
Within 6 years worked in Texas Instruments.
Within 22 years Hector Ruiz worked in Motorola company. The last position which he held in it, - the president of division of Motorola on release of semiconductor products (Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector).
In January, 2000, the founder of AMD Jerry Sanders accepted Ruiz in AMD where he held positions of the president and chief operating officer. Actually Ruiz became Sanders successor.
In 2002 Sanders left a post of the chief executive officer of AMD, and for its place Ruiz came.
In April, 2004 Ruiz was appointed the chairman of the board of directors. Also this year Hector announced the strategy of AMD under name 50x15 under the terms of which the company should provide with computers and Internet access not less than 50% of the population of Earth by 2015.
In July, 2008 Hector Ruiz left a post of the chief executive officer where he was replaced by the chief operating officer Dirk Meyer who was considered as future successor of Ruiz earlier.
Since June, 2008 Ruiz began to hold two positions: chairman of the board of directors and executive chairman of AMD.
Other activity
Ruiz is the board member of Eastman Kodak company, the chairman of the board of directors of Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Is a part of board of trustees of Rice University in Texas.
