HPE Edgeline Converged Edge is the convergent systems for HPE Edgeline network edge accelerating implementation of applications on the periphery of the IT environment of the enterprise and simplifying management of them.

2019: HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System

On February 19, 2019 the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) company announced release of the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System platform (a convergent system for network edge) to help communication service providers to benefit from is information capacious services with small value of a delay of the multimedia products given for delivery, Internet technologies for mobility and the smart cities. The provided system allows communication service providers to process on the basis of open standards large volumes of data in real time directly on network edge to increase flexibility and to reduce costs. HPE also announced cooperation with Samsung and Tech Mahindra for acceleration of implementation of technologies 5G when using the HPE Edgeline EL8000 system for deployment of the virtual 5G-applications focused on boundary calculations.

HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System

According to forecasts of IDC by 2025 worldwide more than 150 billion devices, the majority of which will be created by data in real time, will be connected to the Internet. By 2025, according to forecasts of IDC, such data, will make nearly 30% of a total quantity in worldwide network). According to the same data, in 2018 the volume of global data was 33 zettabytes, and by 2025 it will grow to 175 zettabytes.

To help communication service providers to accelerate transition to 5G, HPE and Samsung Electronics Corporation (SEC) develop the joint solution vRAN working over all infrastructure of a core of network to its periphery. The solution is based on technologies of wireless networks and services of system integration Samsung and also on the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System platform.

As noted in HPE, during the transient period telecom-operators will use the software of mobile boundary calculations multiple access (MEC) which provides many advantages of a 5G, but using infrastructure 4G LTE. For this reason HPE begins to cooperate with Tech Mahindra providing the solutions MEC on the basis of the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System platform.

For provision of services, meaning significant growth in the data collected in real time, communication service providers should lead borders (periphery) of the telecommunication networks to standards of IT systems and software-defined architecture, such as virtual networks of a radio access (vRAN) and virtual systems of connection of cable modems (vCMTS). The convergent HPE Edgeline EL8000 system was developed as a cost-efficient alternative for peripheral equipment of communication service providers. It has the high performance and universality of the digital services using a large number of the data processed in real time. The HPE Edgeline EL8000 system is designed so that to provide the high performance and an ultralow delay for the most difficult transactions, such as stream transfer of media data, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and video analytics, emphasized in HPE.

According to HPE, the mass growth of amounts of data requires that communication service providers unrolled the high-performance systems on the periphery, including on the cellular nodes and with outside placement. Besides, this infrastructure should satisfy to a broad spectrum of the requirements connected with specialized loadings and service quality for what specialized network segments are often used.

Possibilities of HPE Edgeline EL8000 mentioned by the producer:

  • The compact and durable construction optimized for placement as a part of nodes of cellular communication. A system which can work in a rack or it is autonomous, it is steady against different environmental activities, such as high temperatures, blows and vibration, work in the range from 0 to +55 degrees Celsius.
  • High-performance, building block system with reduced energy consumption ensure operation of applications, focused on intensive boundary calculations. It is equipped processors Intel Xeon, supports installation of cards NVIDIA Tesla FPGA Intel, Xilinx, up to 1.5TB of RAM and storage device subsystem up to 16TB.
  • Start of a system in "one cliques" and remote control is provided by rapid implementation and constant control at installation on numerous cellular nodes. At the expense of the technology of HPE iLO 5 checked by time, the HPE Edgeline EL8000 platform, does not need IT examination "on site" where a system would not be installed: on a tower of cellular communication or on the oil-extracting platform.

2018: Announcement of the solutions HPE Edgeline Converged Edge

The Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) company announced on November 27, 2018 the solutions HPE Edgeline Converged Edge (the convergent systems for HPE Edgeline network edge) which allow customers to use the huge amounts of data created by the equipment, digital devices and sensors. Possibilities of the open HPE Edgeline platform allow to benefit by these data with the help of an extensive ecosystem of applications and operational technologies (OT or an APCS) directly on network edge.

Among the presented solutions:

  • HPE Edgeline OT Link Platform is the open platform which automates interaction between the different OT systems and standard IT applications on network edge;
  • HPE Edgeline systems management — the industry-first solutions for control of remote HPE Edgeline devices ensuring reliability and safety of IT infrastructure of a corporate class;
  • The convergent systems for network edge of HPE Edgeline EL300 are the hardware complexes ensuring joint work of OT - and IT systems, including during the work out of premises with the broad range of temperatures;
  • The implementation services of HPE Edgeline and specialized software offered by support department and HPE Pointnext consulting are designed to help customers to plan, to create and optimize IoT-solutions on the basis of OT Link.

HPE Edgeline OT Link

As you know, creation of IoT-or a cyberphysical system is a labor-consuming task. It requires development of special drivers, software of the class middleware and applications to orkestrirovat work of a linking of OT networks, management systems and data streams on IT systems. The open connectivity platform of HPE Edgeline OT Link simplifies this process, reducing costs and time to obtaining benefit.

The solution includes:

  • The program part including the open engine for writing of working scenarios and the directory of applications and allowing to manage complex couplings between components, data and applications using the graphical user interface. This platform creates an ecosystem of the third-party applications working over infrastructure from the periphery to clouds (including developments AWS Google Microsoft SAP PTC, GE and others), thereby making information available on all enterprise and all supply chain.
  • The certified software modules of HPE Edgeline OT Link: the developed HPE adapters which are connected to a broad spectrum of OT - systems, supporting fast bidirectional management, including with high-speed digital input-output, the CAN bus, Modbus or Profinet protocols. Access to program interfaces (API) and a set of development tools (SDK) of these adapters is open for all industry that it facilitates creation of own solutions. They will also be integrated with PLIS (FPGA) - modules with the purpose to provide to customers flexibility in connection to any industrial device of input-output.

HPE Edgeline management tools

Management tools are designed to simplify support and control of peripheral equipment and applications. By software of HPE Edgeline Integrated Systems Manager it is built in the convergent HPE systems. It offers deployment of new elements one mouse click, constant control of a status of all system and separate components, remote update and management even when using limited hardwired and wireless connections. It also supports expanded safety features, such as prevention of changes of the system boot file and shutdown of a remote system in case of violation of security policies. Software of HPE Edgeline Infrastructure Manager it is capable to manage thousands of the convergent Edgeline systems far off. HPE Edgeline Workload Orchestrator represents the centralized repository for container analytical, AI - business and IoT-applications which can be transferred to the remote convergent Edgeline system.

HPE Edgeline EL300

A convergent system for network edge of HPE Edgeline EL300 represents the system of the next generation, the including connectivity platform of OT Link and a management tool of HPE Edgeline. It provides the flexibility opening ample opportunities for use in modern production using a set of wire and wireless methods of connection.

HPE Edgeline EL300 is the system with passive cooling, low power consumption equipped processors Intel Core with i5, memory with a capacity up to 32 GB and storages of 3 TB. It will also support the Intel processors Movidius Myriad X for implementation video analysts and use of technologies artificial intelligence on the periphery of the IT environment of the enterprise.

HPE Edgeline EL300 shows the increased resistance to blows, vibration, humidity and dust and also conforms to requirements of IP50 and MIL-SPEC, can work in the temperature range from-30 to +70 degrees Celsius. These functions allow to use HPE Edgeline EL300 as the integrated system, for example, on production machines or in infrastructure of buildings.

HPE Edgeline implementation services

For support of these offers of HPE Pointnext (Hewlett Packard Enterprise service organization) provides engineering services for applied applications of HPE Edgeline. These services help customers to accelerate planning, development and deployment of IoT-, the "foggy" and cyberphysical systems. Services in a preliminary estimate of options of use, justification of economic feasibility, implementing solutions and management of the installed systems are also available.

Besides, HPE Pointnext can help customers to develop own procedures of data collection, to design industrial network and components of management for integration of the HPE Edgeline OT Link platform.
