2018: Announcement
At the end of November, 2018 the Necuno Solutions company provided the Necuno Mobile smartphone which developers call completely open hardware platform. The project it is implemented together with the international community of KDE developing free desktop environment of KDE Plasma.
The device works running the Linux operating system on the basis of a cover of Plasma Mobile which is concentrated on security and confidentiality of users.
Phone received very old NXP i.MX6 processor with four computing cores and the graphic Vivante accelerator. The company selected this single-crystal system "because of its capability to use free and open source software without binary files, public technical tables and also thanks to an opportunity to use the accelerated Etnaviv GPU driver free programmatically". All technical documentation to i.MX6 and BSP components are open for free loading and audit.
The lack of the module of cellular communication — at least, in the first version of a product became one more feature of the smartphone. For commission of calls and an exit in the Internet it is possible to use only Wi-Fi and also the network Ethernet interface of 100 Mbps. Developers explained lack of the LTE modem with security reasons.
It is noted that in phone there are no components of the closed firmwares which would have access to a base memory of the device - the W-iFi-chip (and in the future the LTE modem) has no access to a base memory and the processor.
Necuno Mobile received the 5.5-inch display, a 3.5-mm audio output for connection of earphones, the Micro-USB connector and a serial port. Information on amount of RAM and capacity a flash drive is absent. Terms of the beginning of sales of a product are also not called.[1]
