At the beginning of December, 2018 it became known of purchase of the software by the Pentagon for $3.2 billion Microsoft which will be established on computers of objects of navy.
The U.S. Department of Defense signed the framework agreement on purchases of licenses and subscriptions for software of Microsoft at the fixed prices with six companies: CDWG Government, Dell Federal Systems, GovConnection, Insight Public Sector, Minburn Technology Group and SHI International.
New contracts are expected 10 years and will work till November 27, 2028. What solutions of Microsoft are bought by the Pentagon, is not specified. Nearly 900 companies applied for participation in the tender.
Bargains are concluded according to the delivery schedule of objects of federal supply approved by Administration of common service (General Services Administration) and within an initiative of DoD Enterprise Software. The last assumes providing "products, ready for commercial use, which will meet the functional requirements of desktop software solutions, operating systems, virtualization, management tools, mobility and guarantees for software".
The DoD Enterprise Software program was started in 1998 by Chief information officers of the Pentagon to save time and money on purchases and operation of the corporate software. The group of managers on software products which consolidate requirements is attached to this initiative and conduct negotiations with equipment suppliers, software and IT services.[1]
According to estimates of the American Ministry of Defence, thanks to the delivery schedule of objects of federal supply approved by Administration of common service it was succeeded to save more than $3 billion by approval of discounts which size reached 86%.
