2018: The Chinese Internet giant JD.com started a hydroponic farm
On December 6, 2018 the Chinese online retailer JD.com announced that he started the hydroponic farm of 11,040 square meters constructed in cooperation with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Chemical.
On a farm already produce spinach, cabbage and a coriander for what use the integrated system of hydroponic cultivation with sunlight access, and apply the closed environment with artificial lighting to cultivation of seedling. Fresh products are traced from the moment of landing before final delivery and will go on sale in JD.com online store and supermarkets 7Fresh until the end of 2018. Afterwards it is going to expand a range of the grown-up vegetables.
The company noted that careful monitoring of a harvest at factory corresponds to the growing demand for transparency of services, especially among the Chinese consumers who aim to provide themselves with safe foodstuff. Besides, overutilization of fertilizers, deterioration in state of environment and rapid growth of the population led to problems with the soil.
It is said in the statement of the company that temperature, the humidity, light and use of liquid fertilizers on a hydroponic farm in Tongzhou are automatically controlled by a local management system that allows to standardize production of vegetables, without worrying about seasonal changes. Fermat should prove soon the efficiency, having allowed to reap more big crop, than normal production - so, it is expected that on a hydroponic farm 19 batches of spinach a year in comparison with 4 batches a year in the field or 6 batches a year in the greenhouse will be grown up. Besides, JD.com reported what for cultivation of vegetables of hydroponic factory is required all half of liter of water. The company added that the farm was integrated with logistic network of Holodova of a chain that will allow to deliver vegetables to clients on the same day when they were brought together.[1]
