2018: Announcement
In December, 2018 Nike provided sneakers at which laces are tied independently. The sale of this footwear which received the name Adaptive and focused on the athletes playing basketball will begin spring of 2019, but the price is already known — $350.
The idea with the self-lacing-up sneakers carries to the movie "Back in the Future 2" by the director Robert Zemeckis: such shoes were worn by the main character of the movie Martie Makflay (the role was played by Michael Jay Fox).
In 2011 and 2016 of Nike sold such Nike Mag sneakers in "Back to the Future" style for tens of thousands of dollars through auctions, and the company allocated the earned funds for charity, including in Michael Jay Fox's fund which is engaged in studying of Parkinson's disease.
In 2016 in the market there were Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 sneakers completed by the system of an automatic lacing E.A.R.L. (Electric Adaptable Reaction Lacing). By means of this technology not only laces drag on, but also landing of foot for more comfortable walking and run is configured. A system itself regulates a tension of laces (electric stretchers are activated when the leg rises on a sole), but also it can be configured using two buttons in socks of sneakers.
Footwear was equipped with the special sensor which is built in the area of a heel. The product cost $720, and Nike Adaptive sneakers will be offered twice cheaper.
Besides, the new generation of sneakers will be widely provided in normal shops therefore Nike calls them the first sneakers with function of an automatic lacing. The principle of system operation will resemble E.A.R.L. Innovation in Nike is also characterized as "the best adaptable solution among many is simple". Any technical characteristics of a product, including electronics operating time without recharge, are not sounded.[1]
