Google bought 1.6 million solar panels for a power supply of data centers

On January 16, 2019 Google announced purchase of 1.6 million solar panels for ensuring a power supply of two new data processing centers in a southeast part of the USA: in Tennessee and Northern Alabama.

The project is implemented by NextEra Energy Resources company together with Tennessee Valley Authority state corporation. Total power of panels will be the 413th megawatt that is equivalent to 65 thousand home solar systems installed on roofs.

Two solar farms located in Hollywood (State of Alabama) and Holes of Holes (State of Tennessee) will be able to produce about 150 megawatts of energy everyone and will become the largest of ever constructed for Google. The company declared, according to the intentions sounded in 2018 to year and in the course of construction, for DPCs in these two states only renewable energy since launch will be used. The ultimate goal of Google about which it was told in the blog of the company in October, 2018 consists in receiving all energy from renewable sources.

According to Association of solar power, for the beginning of 2019 in the State of Tennessee the power of already installed solar batteries is 257 MW, in Alabama — 252 MW. In plans of Google to increase power in the State of Tennessee not less than by 117% and for 150% in Alabama. The remained 113 MW are selected for small projects and is not clear yet as they will be distributed.

The company reported that hundreds of jobs will also be created, and the project will bring to regions millions of dollars in the form of tax deductions.

It is expected that objects will be put into operation at the end of 2021, and it will give considerable economic benefits to the region and also will promote production of the net electric power — the press secretary of NextEra Lisa Paul said.

For the beginning of 2019 Google is the world's largest corporate buyer of renewable energy. The company says that their data processing centers consume 50% less energy, than similar installations of other companies.[1][2]
