On February 6, 2019 the Tieto company reported that in a pilot project of Nordic software, Tieto and high school of Anderstrop in the Swedish city of Shellefteo tested automatic registration of pupils using tags, applications for smartphones and a sensing technology of persons. Reaction of both students, and teachers was positive.
The teacher at high school Anderstorp in Shellefteo is spent every year by 17280 hours (that is equivalent to time spent on work at 10 works for full time) for registration of students at lessons. Registration is a part of the Swedish legislation which says that schools should announce trustees attendance of each lesson daily.
At automatic registration by the pupil it is not necessary to worry that the teacher will forget to register your presence, and the teacher can start a lesson at once, without worrying that pupils are late. Solving this problem, we wanted to find a method to improve work of school. Tommie Lindmark, IT specialist of municipality Shellefteo

In cooperation with Tieto, the management of high school of Anderstorp made the decision on inclusion of school in the pilot project within which possibilities of implementation of automatic registration were studied. As test group the class was selected and within eight weeks the experiment "a future class" was made.
First of all researches and surveys were conducted, and then it was decided to test plastic the admission, applications on mobile phones of students and the system of face recognition. Cameras and sensors were placed with an input in a class. The system of face recognition is based on the equipment which in this case created separate points as a unique pattern for each person. Then the half-scientific model was recognized a system as personal "code". Pupils and parents gave the consent to this project, and Tieto in close cooperation with school carefully ensured safety and observance of GDPR (The all-European regulations about personal data).
Testing provided useful information for work optimization. For example, it became clear, how important for students to receive a visual feedback about successful registration. In this case the decision on installation of a bulb which lit up when pupils successfully were registered was made.
The school and municipality should solve now whether they want to leave automatic registration as the permanent solution.
It was the interesting project. Work with students and municipality helped to understand how we can use modern technologies to make everyday life more effective. Fredrik Ling, the Head of department of design in the field of health care, social security and formation of Tieto
