2019: Project startup
On February 19, 2019 the Linux Foundation organization started the ELISA project (Enabling Linux in Safety Application) open source. He is called to help the companies to create and certify systems on the basis of Linux, failure in which work can threaten human life, cause environmental damage or result in material damage.
In cooperation with the British developer of chips ARM and also the companies BMW Kuka, Linutronix and Toyota the ELISA platform will work with certification bodies and standardization for creation of solutions of the increased reliability based on Linux. All primary branches, including power, medicine and automotive industry, wish to use Linux for applications with high security requirements, VentureBeat tells.
ELISA allows to bring quicker products to the market and to reduce risk of critical errors of design. The problem consists in lack of documentation and tools which would prove reliability of systems on the basis of Linux. Developers hope that they using ELISA will be able to use infrastructure and support of wide community Linux Foundation for implementation of this initiative.
Thus, project objectives include development of standards and examples of use, training of software developers in acceptances of creation of the safe and reliable code and ensuring continuous feedback coupling for high-quality maintenance of software. Besides, ELISA will help developers to trace incidents and critical threats to work of systems and also will lay the foundation for algorithms of quick response to the arising problems.
The basis of ELISA was formed by practices of the SIL2LinuxMP projects (the cut-down environment of GNU/Linux for RTOS) and Real-Time of/Linux (PREEMPT_RT). Developers did huge work to include these components in the main structure of a core of/Linux.[1]
