ARM PSA Certified - Platform Security Architecture

2019: Start Certification

At the end of February 2019, the British microarray developer, ARM, teamed up with independent test laboratories to certify the security of Internet of Things devices that were vulnerable to cyber attacks. The program was called PSA Certified.

ARM believes that the main obstacle to the spread of the Internet of Things is the threat to the security of connected devices. To solve it, the company began certification tests of device security using its Platform Security Architecture (PSA) system. The goal of the project is to gain consumer confidence by making IoT devices safer and invulnerable to cyber attacks.

ARM Begins Security Certification of Internet of Things Devices

ARM engaged Brightsight, CAICT, Riscure and UL test labs, as well as Prove & Run consultants, to implement the project. The certification program allows IoT developers and device manufacturers to authenticate data collected from a variety of sources in the world of IoT, as well as ensure their security. According to ARM representatives, PSA Certified provides a simple and comprehensive approach to security testing, which consists of two elements: a multilevel security scheme and a set of API tests for developers.

The PSA Certified system is already gaining popularity among leading IoT platform vendors at the time of the announcement. ARM called the program launched a new stage in the development of Platform Security Architecture (PSA), which helps developers IoT maintain device security. Initially, it was a set of documents and codes that determined how to develop secure software, but now includes an expanded set of data, including cyber threat models and security analysis documentation, hardware and software architecture specifications, Trusted Firmware with open source (TF-M) and API test sets.[1]
