2019: Announcement

In February, 2019 IKEA provided Gunrid curtains capable to purify air. They are created from the fabric covered with a layer of the photocatalyst which under the influence of light destroys the pollutants which are airborne.  As a result the air arriving through a window becomes purer.

IKEA does not specify, than these safe curtains are covered. Most likely, it is about titanium dioxide which is often used in air purifiers.

We hope that, in addition to providing a pure air in houses of people, curtains of Gunrid will increase the level of concern of people about problems of purity of air in premises and will lead to behavioural changes which will help to make air in the world more net — the head of department of stability of the environment of IKEA Group Lena Pripp-Kovac whose words are cited in the message on the website of the company says. — Gunrid will become the first product using this technology, but after it it will be possible to apply also in other textile products.

Fabric which has capability to purify air, splitting dust and unpleasant smells, it was developed several years in cooperation with large institutes in Europe and Asia. One of authors of the project Mauricio Affonso says that from fabric  it is time for products to become more functional long ago, considering environmental problems in big cities.

Textiles are in all apartments, and, creating curtains with air purification function, we help to organize an ergonomic method of preserving of the healthy atmosphere in the house and  besides  to make it cozy — he noted.

IKEA provided the curtains capable to clean an indoor air

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution by the different elements including getting through biological barriers PM 2.5 particles becomes the reason about 7 million death a year.

Curtains of Gunrid will appear in IKEA shops in 2020. Their price at the time of the announcement is not set.[1]
