In March, 2019 IKEA provided a series of furniture accessories ThisAbles which is expected physically disabled people. The feature of new goods is that the producer offers an opportunity of free download of sketches for independent printing on the 3D-printer.
Files which IKEA suggests to download are completely adapted for start on 3D-printers. Users can print products on the equipment or use services of the relevant services.
Besides, it is possible to request free of charge individual preferences for accessories that they were the most convenient for specific people with disabilities.
Within the ThisAbles series offers 13 parts of accessories which adapt furniture of IKEA for physically disabled people. For example, nozzles on sofa legs which do it higher, holders of a cane on a bed and a plastic pad for protection of a glass cabinet against blows of the wheelchair. All additions printed on the 3D-printer are intended for simple connection with mass-produced furniture of IKEA.
The Swedish company implemented this project in Israel together with Milbat and Access Israel non-profit organizations which create the comfortable urban environment for all categories of people. At the same time the possibility of downloading of schemes of accessories for 3D - printing is available to everyone.
Besides, IKEA published on YouTube a series of the videos telling about how it is necessary to use this or that ThisAbles adaptation. One of such rollers is given below.
IKEA shows interest in use 3D long ago - printings for creation of products. In 2018 the company announced cooperation with producer of prostheses Uniq. Partners agreed about creation of furniture for kibersportsmen by method of three-dimensional printing.[1]
