2019: Announcement

In the middle of March, 2019 Smith & Nephew submitted the portable robotic surgical NAVIO 7.0 system. Thanks to the intuitive interface innovation provides a set of opportunities and optimizes workflow that allows it to reduce time of holding a procedure and to improve results of treatment, the press release says.

So, NAVIO 7.0 uses for visualization KT-scanning in real time in the operating room that reduces time for carrying out a preoperative computer tomography and also the related costs and radiative effects.

Smith & Nephew provided the robot surgeon with the built-in KT-scanner

Besides, procedure time when using NAVIO 7.0 is reduced thanks to the advanced offers of the platform in the field of document flow, data collection and communication. The robotic platform for orthopedic transactions and sports medicine will include the ANTHEM Total Knee System system for a total artroplastika of a knee joint concerning osteoarthrosis which is not inferior on 10-year survival to normal implants.

Though approval of regulatory bodies is not got yet, it is expected that commercialization of the software for the NAVIO 7.0 system will begin in the second half of 2019. But Smith & Nephew does not intend to be satisfied with what has already been achieved – development of the surgical robotic platform of the next generation should be complete at the end of 2019, and the release is planned for 2020.

It is known that the new platform will be much more compact than the previous versions thanks to what it can be used in any conditions, including in the centers of out-patient surgery. Developers are going to add a full-fledged robotic hand with several degrees of freedom and to use possibilities of augmented reality and new achievements of machine learning.[1]
