In March, 2019 it became known of emergence on roads of Australia of the first-ever cameras distinguishing use of phone driving. Three-months tests of technology on Highway M4 began in January.
Thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning a system will recognize drivers-violators in any weather and any time of day. Besides, they also announce police the cars moving with a speed over 300 km/h. According to the minister of motor transport of Australia Melinda Pavey, new cameras of high definition already detected more than 11,000 drivers using mobile phones driving.
Cameras of high definition to the government of New South Wales were provided by local company Acusensus. These devices were developed by Alex Jannink after his friend James Rapley died in road accident which reason was a driver using the mobile phone. Rapley and Dzhannink long time worked together on security technologies on mobile devices in the State of New South Wales, and Dzhannink developed some of their general developments.
Cameras are located on the platform Clunies Ross Street on the route M4 and Anzac Parade in the park Moore. Besides, the police warned inhabitants that also uses the special mobile camera which cannot monitor movement. During a trial period penalties are not issued, but the drivers caught driving with mobile phones receive a special warning. If during a probation period the technology proves the reliability, the government promises to pass to more drastic measures.
It should be noted that though the Australian drivers are forbidden to hold the mobile phone in hand, they can talk, reproduce music or use the navigation application if phone is on a special support.[1]
