Panasonic Compass is the Android platform superstructure for safe deployment and control of the protected business tablets and handheld Toughbook devices. The last additions to a packet of Compass include the new patented instrument of fast setup, updating for a security system for a period of up to 10 years after deployment of the device and also the platform for corporate mobile applications (MEAP) and the portal of certification of new applications for devices of Panasonic Android.
2019: Panasonic Compass 2.0
In March, 2019 Panasonic company, the supplier of the protected mobile devices for business, announced release of the updated application of Panasonic Compass 2.0 (Complete Android Services and Security) for tablets and handheld devices of Panasonic working under management OS Android.
Panasonic Compass 2.0 includes five principal components and offers the enterprises everything that is necessary for safe setup, deployment and control of the protected tablets and Toughbook handhelds based on Android.
Compass Custom allows to configure Android OS according to customer requirements. Parameters vary - from changes of basic appearance of a system to the configured core with certain drivers through full access to the assembly environment.
Updating of a firmware - Compass Air - the firmware by air" (Firmware over the air, FOTA), "An expanded firmware by air" (Advanced FOTA – Firmware Over The Air) and SCOMO includes services "(Software Component Management Object - management of software components). The FOTA technology is used for updates of programs, patches, system applications and drivers. Updates go to Panasonic Toughbook devices twice a year as standard free service for all devices. Advanced FOTA is paid service for the organizations which provides higher extent of control over updates and includes access to the SCOMO function (Software Component Management Object) for control over program components.
Compass Manager offers a number of different tools for remote control corporate mobile devices, including licensing and software certification for management of mobility of the enterprise (Enterprise Mobility Management, EMM) or mobile device management (Mobile Device Management, MDM). It is possible to configure EMM or MDM in Toughbook Configuration Centre using QR codes, NFC connections or the USB USB stick.
The Panasonic Rapid Configuration (PARC) tool allows the clients who do not have access to these applications or a data network to configure more than 40 settings for creation of the protected profiles in the configuration console based on the PC which then generates the QR code for scanning by the device or devices which need to be configured. The NFC setup is also possible using PARC.
All models of Panasonic on Android OS are certified by solution providers for management of mobility of the enterprise (Enterprise Mobility Management, EMM). To certify the application for use on Toughbook devices, it needs to be uploaded on the APK portal. It guarantees installation of the correct application version and protects from date leak.
The unique MCL Mobility Platform MEAP platform for creation and deployment of applications in different operating systems and on different devices provides the centralized and virtual management of all infrastructure of mobile devices of the enterprise.
The improved security system of Compass Security provides security blanket of the mobile Toughbook Android environment and allows IT administrators to unroll updates - locally or far off using MDM, FOTA or Advanced FOTA. Standard service includes support within one year and provides on average two updates for this period. Premium service provides support within three years and can be prolonged for a period of up to five years. Solutions of third-party producers for security and enciphering can be also certified and previously set on demand using COMPASS Manager.
Compass for Enterprise integrates a set of means for optimization of operation of corporate business devices. Using a special tool of application development MCL Developer it is possible to create and develop the user business applications on the devices using platform MCL. Applications can be unrolled in several operating systems, form factors and models of devices. COSU (Corporate Owned, Single Use) and COPE (Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled) of the device allow to work with the interface in the booth mode, providing the personalized access to functions and applications.
