2019: Agreement on construction of the center of photon radiation therapy

In April, 2019 the Administration of Saint Petersburg and Medical institute of Berezina of Sergey (MIBS) signed the agreement on construction of the new center of photon radiation therapy in the south of the city. The acting as the Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov noted that the ground under this project and the city is picked already up will render assistance to further development of the center.

It will be the modern center of photon radiation therapy where at the expense of means of compulsory health insurance there will be able to undergo treatment Petersburgers living in the southern districts of the city. Now there is no center of radiation therapy, and patients who need treatment are forced to go daily on 100 kilometers one way on the city North where all linear particle accelerators are historically concentrated, - the chairman of the board of MIBS Arkady Stolpner told.

According to him, "if everything goes normally, the new center of signs of patients in two years".

In total in the center of photon radiation therapy there will be able to undergo modern beam treatment 3-4 thousand people a year. Section of 0.8 hectares is selected in close proximity to the City clinical oncological clinic. Expected investment volume of MIBS into construction and equipping of the center will be 1.5 billion rubles.

In St. Petersburg about 26 thousand new cases of oncological diseases annually come to light. According to modern protocols of treatment, radiation therapy - as an independent method or in combination with chemotherapy and/or surgery is shown to two thirds of patients.

In Russia as of April, 2019 about 150 linear particle accelerators work that is three times lower than regulation of the security recommended to WHO.
