Wärtsilä will equip the Arctic tankers of Sovcomflot with a numerical control system

On April 24, 2019 the Wärtsilä company reported that it signed the contract with PJSC Sovcomflot for equipment of the Arctic tankers a numerical control system the fleet (Fleet Operations Solution) for further increase in security and efficiency of sea transactions in difficult climatic conditions.

According to the company, contract signature took place in March, 2019. It is expected that the project will be complete until the end of this year.

Within the signed contract Wärtsilä will convert the Arctic vessels SKF management systems for the fleet of FOS. The upgraded onboard systems will provide the large-scale integration level between the onboard systems of the vessel and the Center of operational control of SKF that, including, will give opportunities for joint decision making by crews and coast guards.

Earlier based on the equipment and the software Tranzas in SKF headquarters in St. Petersburg the uniform Center of operational control behind operation of the fleet of SKF in the Arctic sea basin was started. The center locates wide functionality for the solution of difficult navigation tasks using digital technologies and actually has no analogs in the industry.

The complete solution FOS became result of cooperation between specialists of Sovcomflot and Tranzas companies. It represents the integrated infrastructure integrating navigation bridge systems, cloud data management, services of data transmission, instruments of decision support and an information access in real time. In addition to substantial increase of level of efficiency of sea transactions, the solution FOS will also promote decrease in operating expenses.

The complete solution of a management system for the fleet of FOS is an important component of the concept of "smart" marine ecosystem of Wärtsilä which is based on integration of the automated navigation systems and decision making support systems installed onboard for ensuring safe and effective navigation. This system has potential on equipment of all fleet of the company as significantly increases efficiency of operation of courts. The Arctic tankers, LNG gas carriers and icebreaking supply vessels are already equipped with the integrated Tranzas navigation system.
