U.S. Department of Energy signed $2 billion cloud contract with Accenture

At the beginning of May, 2019 the U.S. Department of Energy signed with Accenture company the contract for the amount of $2 billion for transition of division of department to cloud computing.

The five-year agreement under the name CIO Business Support Support Services or CBOSS also includes ensuring cyber security and providing customer-oriented software.

The Ministry of Energy began transition in 2018 when transferred to cloud infrastructure of the application and the data warehouse from one of outdated data processing centers. By 2020 the same is going to be done with two more centers. Cloud services will be available to all department that expands possibilities of the Ministry of Energy, and the built-in system of cyber security provides necessary control.

At the beginning of 2019 the Accenture company expanded staff of the studio in Washington at the expense of data specialists and other experts to raise possibilities of fast creation of prototypes. The studio pays special attention to the design focused on the user and the accelerated upgrade of IT. For contract performance Accenture concluded the cooperation agreement with Unisys, General Dynamics Information Technology and Red River companies.

The CBOSS project was transferred to Accenture in October, 2018, but the competing ActioNet company tried to protest this solution in December on the basis of the fact that company services were estimated prejudicedly. The head budget and control department of the USA rejected a protest in March, 2019, having revealed technical superiority of Accenture company. Anyway, Accenture is not going to accelerate the diagram of contract performance after a delay – according to Jake Brody, the managing director of Accenture, all decisions in this area will be made together with the government.

The Ministry of Energy refused comments on requests of the western media.[1]
