On May 23, 2019 the ABB company, the company in the field of industrial automation and solutions for power, announced obtaining the order for several hundred millions of euros from consortium Aibel/Keppel FELS which is engaged in design and construction of a system of high-voltage lines of a direct current (HVDC) for the project of sea wind farms DolWin5. ABB will supply the equipment for transmission of energy. This project will provide transfer of 900 megawatts of the electric power at zero emissions of carbon (it enough to provide with energy about 1 million houses) from three wind farms located approximately in 100 km from the coast of Germany. End of project works is planned for 2024.
The order includes the transformer platform in the North Sea and shore transformer station in the city of Emden in the territory of the federal Land of Lower Saxony in Germany. For sea wind farms in this cluster the TenneT company — the chief European operator of power transmission systems working in the Netherlands and Germany is engaged in transmission lines.
The solution of ABB company for high-voltage lines of a direct current transfers energy from sea wind farms, transforming alternating current (AC) to permanent (DC) on the transformer platform. As a result energy is transferred to the continent on a wire direct current system 130 kilometers long with very small losses. On shore transformer station inverse transformation is carried out to alternating current, and energy moves in a distribution network. Compact building block solutions of ABB for coastal stations solve the main objectives of a system, provide significant decrease in cost of production of unit of the electric power and reduce the volume of emissions of carbon.
Transformers of tension of ABB which are on sale in the market under the name of HVDC Light provide minimum loss at conversion. Besides, the order will also include the system of modular expanded management ABB Ability for HVDC (MACHTM) which will provide control of connection between wind farms and the coastal alternating current main.
Claudio Fachchin noted:
our technologies of transmission of energy, world experience, understanding of problems of integration of renewable energy sources, approach to partnership and close cooperation with TenneT became key factors of success in this project. |
Within the program of change of a power generating system ("Power turn") Germany is going to draw by 2030 65 interest of all electric power from renewable sources. Promptly the share of the net energy developed on huge sea wind farms in the North Sea grows. In only 10 years production of wind energy in Germany grew from scratch to 6,382 megawatts. More wind energy in the world is made only by Great Britain.
