On May 27, 2019 the Dassault Systemes company reported that it helps Aristotle's University with Thessaloniki to continue researches and reconstruction of the oldest in the world of the analog computer – the Antikitersky mechanism. Students of faculty of mechanical engineering will use platform 3DEXPERIENCE for digital reconstruction of the machine and also for improvement of knowledge and skills in design and development of the highly effective mechanism.

According to the company, the Antikitersky mechanism was constructed in the second century B.C. and found in a deplorable state in 1900 at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea at coast of the small Greek island of Antikitera. Its historical value for technology and science can be compared to value of the Acropolis for architecture and art. Construction, the principles of work and appointment remained a riddle until during recent researches scientists did not find out that this extremely difficult mechanism allows to calculate and predict with a high accuracy astronomical events, for example, provision of the Sun, a phase of the Moon, lunar and solar eclipses and also trajectories of planets.

Using the cloud version of platform 3DEXPERIENCE students will be able in the conditions of Laboratory of machines and technologies of mechanical engineering (Laboratory for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Engineering) in a digital form to recreate the Antikitersky mechanism and to finish its functions and the principles of work. It includes integration of an additional system of gear wheels in the digital double of the machine which sets five planets and ukazuyushchy stars in motion that will allow to obtain necessary data for production of parts of the mechanism and modeling of their movement in actual practice.

This virtual educational environment students of the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki will be able to receive and apply knowledge and a know-how. Platform 3DEXPERIENCE allows teachers and students to create products, to manage projects and to undergo skills training with cross-disciplinary approach on real tasks. Students will be able to master all those applications for digital design, production, modeling and joint innovation activity which are used by the industrial companies around the world for design and product development and for creation of impressions for the clients.
