Sulzer creates interactive 3D - product demonstrations using Vuforia Studio

On April 29, 2019 the Pro Technologies company reported that the Sulzer company raised income and optimized creation, operation and service of the products due to implementation of 3-dimensional environments of augmented reality creating effect of presence.

Project Objectives

The Sulzer company in 2017 had a purpose — to make transition to digital technologies tangible and to show what it is possible to make using technology augmented reality. The company understood need to make technology tangible for heads, people and services which finally provide future revenue growth and the innovation improvement of products. Taking into account the limited budget and resources the Sulzer company could create demonstrations for 8 – 10 of the products. In respect of augmented reality creation on the basis of the existing drawings CAD of the interactive 3-dimensional environments representing each product of the company which can be browsed on any device was the purpose of the company. Implementation of tool kit with a user-friendly interface of the user and simple technology of management was the main aspect. Augmented reality provides to internal collectives virtual access to individualized 3D models at any time and from any place using the given references.

Project Progress

The software of Vuforia Studio allowed Sulzer company quickly and to economically create and publish scalable environments of augmented reality at what it does not require any preliminary experience of programming and work with technology of augmented reality. Having begun with the offered PTC program of free testing Vuforia Studio, the Sulzer company implemented a single platform which allowed to use 3D models from the existing packets of CAD and to create attractive digital mediums. Due to combination of the physical and digital worlds the company can turn the 3-dimensional data into the valuable, created on demand user environments and "products which it is possible to touch" for the exhibitions and processes of assessment.

Project Results

During decimestrial term, the Vuforia Studio visual development environment with a drag-and-drop feature allowed Sulzer company to achieve the goal of "transition to digital technologies". The user-friendly Vuforia Studio tool kit allowed Sulzer company quickly and to effectively use the existing data of CAD for formation of the environments of augmented reality creating effect of presence in real time and to publish a 3D model to any stage against the background of the real world using any device. The user functions, 3D - animation, imposing of digital data and technical descriptions allowed Sulzer company to change design process and to make an impression on potential partners and clients. Using the environments of augmented reality created in Vuforia Studio, the Sulzer company gave to the audience the chance to instantly examine and test different 3D models instead of going through the 2D directory - illustrations.
