2019: Announcement

At the end of May, 2019 provided to Jaguar Land Rover a touch steering wheel which will be able to give to the driver commands using heating and cooling of a surface.

Engineers supplied a wheel with the system of heating: temperature of a steering wheel from this or that party hints the driver in what direction it is necessary to turn, warns about traffic jam on a route and prompts about need to be rebuilt in other row. Temperature change happens sharply within 6 Celsius degrees, however it is noted that the possibility of setup of temperature range at the request of the driver is provided.

At the same time it is emphasized that such thermal signals, though can be applied only in not emergency situations, are capable to raise the overall level of road security nevertheless. Such system would be useful in the conditions of poor or insufficient visibility: during snow, fog or on mountain roads. The research of Jaguar Land Rover shows that thermal signals will help the driver to focus on the road completely.

In the future developers intend to apply the same system of thermal signals to understeering lobes. Besides, it is going to adapt technology and for other types of notifications – for example, about a fuel reserve in a tank.

Provided to Jaguar Land Rover a touch wheel. It will prompt where to turn

Provided to Jaguar Land Rover technology against the background of the fact that drivers during driving should process a lot of information therefore car makers equip cars with the systems of the help. Part of them works in an active mode, for example, an adaptive cruise control, and a part, for example, the navigator only notifies the driver. For the notification in cars visual hints on the screen of a multimedia system or the meter panel and also sounds are usually used. Car makers experiment also with other methods of notifications, such as projection to a windshield.[1]
