Islamic movement of Nigeria (IMN)

For 2019 Shiites make minority in Nigeria, but their number grows.

IMN formed in the 1980th years is the main Shiite group headed by the sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki.

In some northern states Shiite schools and hospitals work.

IMN is supported by Shiite Iran, and members of the movement often go there for study.

Grouping of Sunni jihadists of Boko Haram (are active in the northeast of the country) condemns Shiites as heretics who should be killed.

2019: Clashes with the police

The National Assembly of Nigeria in July, 2019 had collisions between police and the protesting Shiites

Members of the pro-Iranian Muslim group of Shiites, the Islamic movement of Nigeria (IMN), protested against detention of their leader, the sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki. He is in custody since 2015.

The member of IMN Abdullahi Mahomed Musa reported to Reuters agency that the police opened fire, having killed two protesters when they tried to enter the meeting building peacefully. The police declared eight injured officers.

347 members of IMN died in collisions with army

Followers of the sheikh Zakzaki regularly protest after collisions with army in 2015.

The authorities accused his supporters of attempt at the chief of staff of army. During these collisions military killed 347 members of IMN, the army at the same time lost one person.
