2019: Release on the market
On July 11, 2019 Microsoft began deliveries of the Azure Kinect Developer Kit platform allowing to create solutions in the field of computer vision and speech processing.
According to the corporate vice president of Microsoft Azure Julia White, Azure Kinect Developer Kit represents the structure of Internet of Things with elements of artificial intelligence (intelligent edge device) which "not just sees and hears, but also understands people, the environment, objects and their actions".
A system includes the 1-megipikselny Time-of-Flight sensor for determination of depth of space (same it is used augmented reality of HoloLens 2 wearing spectacles), the RGB 12-megapixel camera for the additional color flow combined with depth flow and also an array from 7 cameras around and inertial sensors.
The set is held for use commercial clients in spheres of scientific research, health care, robotics, logistics and production.
Thanks to Azure Kinect Developer Kit it is possible to synchronize data from different cameras and sensors, for example, for creation of the 3D map of the premises.
One of retailers — Ava Retail company — used Azure Kinect and a cloud of Azure for development of the platform allowing clients to make quick purchases without cashiers and other personnel.
The medical company Ocuvera used Azure Kinect Developer Kit for creation of technology which predicts risk of falling of patients and warns about it nurses. One more company — DataMesh — tested the platform for comparison of digital versions of automobile spare parts to real components at the plant.[1]
The set of Azure Kinect Developer Kit is available on sale at the price of $399. By July 11, 2019 it can be purchased in the USA and China.
