ABB will be engaged in digital upgrade of Shymkent Refinery in Kazakhstan

2019: Digital upgrade of Refinery using ABB Ability

On August 8, 2019 the ABB company announced the beginning digital upgrade of the Shymkent Refinery in Kazakhstan. The complex of solutions of a digital portfolio of ABB will allow to upgrade completely one of the largest oil processing enterprises of the country within the strategy of digital development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the heart of upgrade of Refinery solutions from the digital ABB Ability portfolio are put. Joint work of the connected equipment, analysis systems of data and the platform for predictive analytics will allow to control and estimate in real time a condition of equipment of the plant, and employees of the managing director of the plant of the company – Petrokazakhstan Oil Prodakts LLP – will be able to obtain crucial data on the equipment and production processes at the enterprise online.

According to forecasts, digitalization of the Shymkent oil refinery based on solutions of ABB will increase performance and will reduce operating costs and also will allow operators to make more weighed decisions on the basis of exact and operational data.

Besides, the digital solution ABB Ability Asset Performance Management will allow to pass from the planned maintenance to predictive that will provide timely service of technology assets of the enterprise without forced stops of production - that will also allow to optimize costs.

ABB will prolong the current intervals between maintenance at the plant up to the three-year plan. It will be reached due to early detection of need of repair of the equipment or its replacement long before possible failure that will help operators to place priorities in service on the basis of up-to-date data.

This project is estimated as strategically important for creation of digital economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan by 2022 within the Digital Kazakhstan program which purpose – development of profile sectors of economy, including oil and chemical industry.

Specialists of ABB will also carry out business consultations with representatives "Petrokazakhstan Oil of Prodakts" and will tell about features of project lifecycle and the corporate principles of implementation of digital technologies at the plant. Consultations will include assessment of the current business processes, the recommendations about their improvement and increase in efficiency and also about training of specialists.
