Gazprom Neft constructed the beginning of 2019 in St. Petersburg a computing cluster for creation of digital doubles of oil fields. On data transfer rate between nodes it exceeds many Russian supercomputers.

The distributed system of calculations is capable to process over 100 Gbit per second that allows to accelerate process of digital modeling to 5 times.

Digital models of fields help specialists to make the justified investment decisions, to plan future infrastructure of assets and level of production of hydrocarbons. Computer processing of 3D models requires the analysis of a set of options on physical, engineering and economic parameters. For this purpose in the new project of Gazprom Neft cluster parallel computings in which each task breaks into several simultaneous processes thanks to what the speed and efficiency of its solution increases are used.

The computing cluster is successfully applied by specialists of Scientific and technological center of Gazprom Neft to preparation of calculations of mastering of Vyngayakhinsky (YaNAO) and the Shinginsky field (Tomsk region). During a pilot project the supercomputer showed performance at the level of not less than 16 Tflops (16 trillion operations per second). For an example, similar capacities are comparable to operation of 160 normal computers.

The product OmniPath from Intel company became a basis of network of data exchange. Calculations are made using video cards (GPU) which allow to increase the speed of calculations in addition. Use of the specified technology new products allowed to receive superiority over the majority of supercomputers in the field of solving of tasks on creation of hydrodynamic models of fields.

In addition to increase in speed of creation of 3D models, the computing cluster of Gazprom Neft allows to do them more detailed and exact concerning the analogs created on the basis of systems acting on the market. It is advantage at solving of tasks of hydrodynamic modeling which are not feasible on the supercomputers existing in Russia with a similar performance.

In the short term, computing powers of a new cluster will also be involved during the work with fields of the Orenburg region and Sakhalin. Further, the project is going to be used for increase in efficiency of mastering of assets of Gazprom Neft in the Arctic region.
