Confidential Computing Consortium

Linux Foundation, Microsoft, Google, Alibaba, ARM, Baidu, IBM, Intel, Red Hat, Swisscom and Tencent signed the agreement on creation of consortium on privacy protection of data (Confidential calculations (Confidential Computing)) in August, 2019. The organization which received the name Confidential Computing Consortium will be engaged in development of standards and technologies open source with the purpose to stimulate process of implementation of the protected computing technologies.

Each participant of consortium will enter to the project the product open source. In particular, the Intel company provided the application programming interface Software Guard Extensions (SGX) SDK. SGX is intended for protection of the code and data against foreign access at the hardware level using the protected enclaves.

In turn Microsoft advances own software of Open Enclave SDK – a framework open source for creating applications of Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). Red Hat will enter the Enarx technology allowing to create and start the confidential applications which are not depending on servers to the project.

The consortium will consist of Management board, the Technical advisory board and several working groups for control over each separate project. Financing of Confidential Computing Consortium will be performed at the expense of membership fees.
