2019: Development of the module "Kasatka-R"
On August 29, 2019 the Russian Space Systems holding (enters into Roskosmos State corporation) announced end acceptance testing of the active antenna module for the space radar with the synthesized aperture of "Kasatka-R" who will provide the round-the-clock and all-weather radar shooting of a surface of the planet in the X-range.
"Kasatka-R" it is created for inclusion in structure of the target equipment of observation of the space Obzor-R complex developed by JSC Progress Rocket and Space Centre. Use of Spacecrafts of the Remote Sensing of Earth (RSE) Obzor-R with the Kasatka-R radar will expand modern opportunities for observation of the surface of the planet.
the Antenna of the Killer whales radar consists of 18 fragments – active antenna modules, each of which at first was tested independently. These modules retrofitted by digital blocks turn into self-sufficient digital radar devices. We completed production of all devices of the radar, started its testing and at the same time we conduct working off of the onboard software. During 2019 we are going to give a regular product "to Progress rocket and space center, |
Possibilities of the radar allow round the clock and irrespective of weather conditions to conduct radar shooting of a surface of the planet in the X-range for the benefit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rosreestr, other ministries and departments and also regions of Russia.
The Killer whale radar allows to identify moving objects, for example, sea currents, to create digital maps of a land relief, to make multidimensional polarimetric processing of radar data for the analysis of a status of terrestrial covers and other tasks, told the head of department of development of radars with the synthesized aperture of space basing of Scientific Research Institute TP Alexander Kovalenko

In Killer whale the technology of digital formation of beams of the antenna which allows the radar to create frames of images of high resolution, by the size much the exceeding frames of the images received by classical single-beam radars is implemented. Specialists of Scientific Research Institute TP also develop original control and measuring techniques and technical solutions for testing and adjustment of the radar.
