2019: Verification of the management concept an asset portfolio using the Digital Annealer system

On September 3, 2019 the Fujitsu company announced completion of verification of the concept (Proof of Concept, PoC) asset portfolio management using the Digital Annealer system created based on quantum technologies. The project was implemented together with Main Incubator GmbH, research center of Commerzbank bank. During the course of performance verifications of the concept selection process of assets - receivables under leasing contracts of vehicles was optimized.

Producers of cars sell to investors receivables under leasing contracts for the purpose of liquidity management optimization. Such debts integrate in a pool on the basis of which securities which are trading then banks are issued. Formation of pools is made depending on a risk degree and other indicators of assets. Digital Annealer optimized process of formation of pools that the companies could use the securities issued by them most effectively.

Verification of the concept was concentrated on optimization of the choice from several thousand leasing assets of vehicles for formation of an asset pool for a funding portfolio. Such important factors as regulatory requirements, absolute limits of volume and percentage limits for certain characteristics of the assets necessary for achievement of higher risk diversification were at the same time considered.

The solution of a similar difficult combinatory task of optimization required very long work of computing powers using classical processors. As noted in Fujitsu, in the future quantum computers will be able to process at the same time all combinations for instant finding of the answer to a question, but so far before their commercial use is still very far. Fujitsu Digital Annealer executes simultaneous calculation of problems of combinatory optimization, using the quantum principles implemented in digital architecture that gave the chance of Main Incubator to execute verification of the concept.
