2019: Announcement
At the beginning of September, 2019 NXP Semiconductors presented the first-ever solution on the basis of microcontrollers which provides autonomous face recognition and expressions in "smart" houses. Developers are sure that the new device for face recognition on the basis of microcontrollers, will allow producers of the original equipment quickly, easily and cheap to include this function in different goods of IoT.
The solution under the name I.MX RT106F is used by a neuronet for face recognition without the need for connection to the Internet. Producers can take its advantage to expand possibilities of the interface of the person machine for personalisation of operation of intelligent peripheral devices, such as thermostats, means of lighting and electric tools. Thanks to new cheap technology different devices will be able to distinguish each family member and to react as appropriate to their look and also intuitively to configure the work according to preferences of the user.
The solution for face recognition on the basis of microcontrollers provides exact face recognition and expressions with short delay and is suitable for existing applications. The autonomous platform includes the certified equipment rooms and software tools and also completely integrated mechanism of face recognition of OASIS from NXP. Developers are not limited to systems based on Linux working on expensive multi-core processors which require a big flash memory, complex management and expensive printed circuit boards any more.
As the total cost of a system is twice cheaper than alternative means, producers already with interest look narrowly at new technology. It is expected that devices on the basis of new technology will appear in the market in the first quarter 2020.[1]
