In October, 2018 the project on automation of a warehouse with the solution ABM WMS in VDS-Torg company is complete.

Premises of implementation of ABM WMS

Among the main problems:

  • Dependence on the employees knowing the range and storage locations of goods.
  • Lack of process of consolidation of trade inventories.
  • Lack of the centralized tool for management of a warehouse, resources and the analysis of activity of a warehouse.
  • Fair quantity of claims from clients concerning the detected shortages and resorts allowed in the course of a complete set of orders.
  • Lack of marking of ShK on products of import production that complicates identification of goods.
  • Big time expenditure on search of goods and a complete set of stocks.
  • Impossibility to carry out high-quality inventory without stopping of sales and, as a result, strongly distorted information on warehouse stocks (cost, defects, illiquid assets).

Project Tasks

For a project team the customer set the following tasks:

  • Full automation and optimization of basic processes in a warehouse (acceptance, a complete set, inventory of goods, etc.).
  • Instrument of consolidation of warehouse stocks.
  • Increase in rates of document handling of acceptance and shipment of goods using the data collection terminal (DCT).
  • Reduction of influence of a human factor by formation of shortages and resorts.
  • Inventory without stopping warehouse.
  • Control of activity of personnel in real time.
  • Block of analytics.
  • The instrument of goods marking using self-adhesive labels with ShK.
  • Implementation of several types of a complete set, depending on an order type (The normal order or for mobile shop which has the address structure)
  • Implementation of several types of goods receipt (Standard practice of goods and accelerated through cross docking)

Work progress

Process of preparation before a project startup included the next stages:

  • 1. Inspection of warehouse processes with the subsequent drawing up Technical specifications and its approval of key staff from the customer.
  • 2. Completion of the software solution of ABM WMS for satisfaction of the requirements revealed during inspection.
  • 3. Setup of integration between the WMS system and the ERP system of the customer.
  • 4. Parametrization and software configuration of ABM WMS on the basis of approved Technical specifications.
  • 5. Setup of the equipment: personal computers, data collection terminals, thermal printers.
  • 6. Holding training courses on work with software of ABM WMS and ABM WMS Mobile Client.
  • 7. Carrying out a complete inventory using the shipping documentation for initial input of a remaining balance with a binding to the addresses of storage and additional marking by the ABM WMS tools, difficult identified goods.

Project Results

Results and effects of a project startup of ABM WMS in a warehouse of VDS-Torg company:

  • Full automation of work of a warehouse and failure from work with the help of paper carrier of information for benefit of the shipping documentation.
  • Automatic fixing of the detected shortages and defects in the course of acceptance, placements and complete sets of goods.
  • Total absence of claims on resorts and shortages from clients.
  • 100% identification of any goods.
  • Carrying out complete and partial inventories at any moment without stopping basic processes.
  • Possibility of automatic creation of tasks for combination of identical goods and increase in quantity of empty seats of storage.
  • Increase in employee performance of a warehouse – an order in a warehouse, complete understanding of the happening processes in a warehouse in general and in any specific timepoint.
