The Ruselectronics holding of State Corporation Rostec put into operation the new Fisher supercomputer for the Joint institute of high temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OIVT RAS) with a peak capacity of 13.5 of Tflops. It is created based on the Angara network allowing to integrate any number of computers in a uniform computing cluster. Development of Rostec is intended for solving of tasks of molecular dynamics: creations of digital models of substances and forecasting of behavior of materials in extreme statuses.

The project is implemented by specialists of Research center of electronic ADP equipment (enters into Ruselectronics). "Fisher" will be used by OIVT RAS – the leading scientific center of Russia in the field of modern power and thermophysics - for carrying out scientific research under the leadership of the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Vladimir Stegaylov.

Fisher is the first supercomputer created on the basis of a communication network Angara in switching execution that allows to create supercomputers with a bigger density of configuration (in comparison with commutatorless option of execution) and facilitates installation and further operation of the computing system due to reduction of number of the cables used for switching.

"Difficult calculations are required for scientific research, training of neural networks, processing of large volumes of data, modeling of characteristics of new products of industrial enterprises. At the same time computing resources of supercomputers are extremely demanded and expensive. The Angara network successfully solves these problems, allowing rather cheap and in a short time to create supercomputers on the basis of separate computing nodes. In OIVT RAS several years the DESMOS supercomputer with a power of 52.24 Tflops created based on the previous generation of Angara network is used. Its computing powers were so demanded by scientists that the decision on creation of "younger brother" of this supercomputer already based on new generation of switching network was made. Its performance is calculated under specific objectives, but in need of a possibility of "Fisher" can be significantly expanded", - the chief executive of State Corporation Rostec Oleg Yevtushenko notes.

The Fisher supercomputer consists of 24 computing nodes with 16-core processors. In a computing cluster the submersible cooling system providing uniform and energy efficient thermal control at any computing loading is used. Thanks to such solution the supercomputer does not require specially prepared premises, and the operating temperature range of a cluster is from ‒50 °C to +50 °C.

The Angara network is the first Russian solution for creation of supercomputers of record performance, computing clusters for processing of Big Data and calculations on the basis of parallel algorithms. Possibilities of Angara allow to concentrate in a single network of power of thousands of computers, including different producers and with different architecture of central processors.
