2019: Announcement
The Italian company Piaggio Fast Forward in October, 2019 announced the beginning of sales of the Gita robot porter who can follow the user, being guided by the person going before it using image sensors. The cost of innovation is $3250.
The robot who in a form is close to a sphere is capable to go with a speed nearly 10 km/h and to work without recharge about four hours. Loading capacity exceeds 18 kg, and the device weighs about 22.7 kg.
The robot porter is equipped in couple of wheels with illumination which changes depending on current transaction. The box for storage of things (for example, purchases in shop) is locked by means of mobile application. In the same program it is possible to look at the level of battery power and to make different settings.
As the size of the robot pretty compact, high and dimensional objects, for example, construction materials to transport it will not turn out.
One more restriction is that the robot is intended for movement on plain surfaces. He can climb up a slope at an angle up to 16 degrees, however ladders remain for it an absolute obstacle.
The concept of Gita was showed at the beginning of 2017, and the commercial version underwent several changes. For example, the robot became only partially independent: he is capable to distinguish the owner and to follow it, but cannot independently go along the set route. Besides, the appearance of the device changed, and maximum speed was cut off almost four times.
It is obvious that at the high cost (in rubles — more than 200 thousand) the Gita robot will not be able to apply for high demand among consumers. Most likely, development will be adopted by the companies and hotels if limited characteristics of the robot do not become for them an obstacle.[1]
