2019: Announcement
At the end of October, 2019 Hyundai Motor Group reported that it developed the first-ever system of artificial intelligence which estimates a manner of driving and applies it to a cruise control.
A new system received the name Smart Cruise Control-Machine Learning (SCC-ML), i.e. a "smart" cruise control with machine learning. Its work is based on consecutive collection of data on the driver's habits using the front camera and radar sensors. Algorithms of machine learning, in turn, use the acquired information for permanent self-training of a system adaptive a cruise control.
Hyundai Motor notes that the new technology estimates a driving manner on three key parameters: distance to the car moving ahead, acceleration and sensitivity of the driver to road conditions, such as obstacles in the route. The SCC-ML system uses about 10,000 types of behavioural scenarios and adjusts them with the greatest comfort for the driver, adapting to a situation on the road.
The car maker claims that SCC-ML can be considered as technology of autonomous driving of the 2.5 level as it includes the assistant to change of a lane and the assistant to driving on the highway. They provide autonomous steering, acceleration and deceleration of the car and also support the mode of preserving of a distance with the object moving ahead. Now the majority of technologies a cruise control offers the 2nd level of autonomous driving.
Developers note that SCC-ML will not study "harmful" habits of the driver, but will be able to adapt under the changing style of driving, everyone improves the skills. Hyundai Motor and its Kia Motors Corp branch are going to implement gradually this technology in new models of cars.[1]
