Rostelecom upgraded the system of street lighting in the capital of Kalmykia

2019: Upgrade of a system of street lighting

On November 8, 2019 Rostelecom South announced completion of work on upgrade of a system of street lighting on streets of Elista. The project is implemented within the seven-year power service contract between national digital provider and city administration and directed to formation of intellectual infrastructure of the city.

The company dismantled all outdated street lamps, set more than 7 thousand energy saving LED lamps. Unlike galogenovy or luminescent lamps LEDs instantly light up, maintain differences of tension, consume many times less electric power, are steady against negative natural impacts and more than 10 years serve.

Control of operation of the energy saving equipment is exercised by the automated system of accounting/management of outside lighting (ASA/OL). The intelligent system works online and allows to define remotely faults of power network, to include or disconnect lamps depending on the level of natural lighting and also to conduct monitoring of data on electricity consumption.

Energy saving lighting will allow to reduce costs in a segment of housing and public utilities. According to assessment of experts, economy of the budget for the period of operation of the equipment will make 75 million rubles. The project on upgrade of lighting in Elista became the next step to creation of 'the smart cities' in Kalmykia. 'The smart city' from "Rostelecom' is directed to increase in effective management of city resources and improvement of quality of life of people thanks to use of modern digital technologies and services,

The lighting system of Elista required upgrade long ago. In implementation process of the project requests of citizens on increase in illumination of specific sites of streets were considered. The project will allow not only to reduce consumption of electrical energy, but also to increase security and comfort of our citizens. We will be able to direct the means saved due to smart expenditure of the electric power to other needs, noted to Bat Hasikov, the Governor of Kalmykia

Upgrade of street lighting is carried out at the expense of own means of Rostelecom. Return of investments will happen thanks to economy of electricity consumption and technical operation of the system. At the same time the company guarantees the equipment of lamps, including replacement of the equipment during validity. On end of the duration of the contract all saved means will come to the municipal budget.

Implementation of energy-saving technologies and creation of a system of automated management of electric devices will allow city administration of Elista to save about 60% of the consumed energy monthly.
