Western Union begins large-scale transfer of systems to a cloud of Amazon

At the end of November, 2019 Amazon Web Services attracted the new large customer in the sector of financial services. The Western Union company announced that it selected Amazon company as "the preferable supplier of long-term strategic cloud solutions" and is going to transfer "a considerable part" of the computing infrastructure to the public platform of cloud giant.

Western Union - one of the most known financial companies in the world providing payments and money transfers more than in 200 countries of the world. However its large-scale business activity is based on outdated infrastructure of a data processing center therefore the company is going to transfer the existing data to cloud microservices Amazon where will be able to create and support new applications, without worrying about their scale or complexity.

One of the reasons of such solution is that Western Union aims to use numerous specialized services which are offered by AWS, including machine learning and data analysis. Western Union believes that he will be able to use these services for automation of a huge number of the business operations. Besides, the company intends to use the Amazon Aurora and DynamoDB databases for acceleration of payment processing and increase in number of transactions.

The CIO of Western Union Amit Sharma also emphasized that AWS regularly unrolls new services and represents the innovation products. He specified new service Amazon PayCode which allows users to buy from the most different countries goods on Amazon.com in local currency through Western Union as an example.

This multichannel platform is only one of strategic initiatives which we will advance, using scalability and functionality of AWS, - Sharma said.
