At the end of November, 2019 the world's largest retailer Walmart started in the Canadian division a blockchain system for tracking of loads and management of payments which is already used by 70 companies whose goods are delivered in more than 400 retail stores. As the partner in this project DLT Labs startup acted.

It is supposed that all third-party cargo carriers of Walmart Canada should get access to a blockchain system on February 1, 2020 - the full-scale project startup is planned for this date. Walmart claims that this a blockchain network is the largest in own way. In real time a system integrates and synchronizes the data obtained from logistics systems in the distributed register and provides access to all interested persons, i.e. Walmart Canada, her operators and carriers.

Considering that daily more than 4500 employees and drivers of Walmart Canada deliver thousands of goods in shops from the distributor centers, more transparent and effective management of the system of delivery will allow to reduce operating expenses significantly.

The blockchain platform will be available via the website and mobile application. A system already actively is implemented into Walmart retail stores.

The companies cooperating with us deliver more than 500 thousand goods through the whole country therefore we should work with extremely large volume of data. A new system upgrades our transport infrastructure thanks to faster transactions, economy of costs and other advantages of blockchain technologies — the senior vice president of Walmart Canada John Bayliss noted.

Walmart already applied a blockchain in other internal divisions - in June, 2019 Walmart China developed a solution blockchain for tracking of food, and in September, 2019 the company announced that it intends to use blockchain technology for tracking of deliveries of shrimps from India.[1]
